My Role
I have over 25 years of experience working in the HR field and have dedicated the last decade to partnering with startup founders to build their strategic HR roadmaps to up-level their teams and build their companies with the most solid HR foundation. This has drastically increased the probability of success by removing the constant distractions with the most important investment a company can make- their people. Plus, providing this right-hand-(wo)man support for Founders allows them to have the security of knowing they are not going at it all alone and the confidence to move quickly on their products knowing their teams are taken care of.
What I love most about my role
I love tackling big complicated employment related issues with Founders and leaders. In doing this for as long as I have it is rare that we get a circumstance we have never seen before, but these situations are what keep HR fun.
How I define success
Guess it depends on who is asking. For me I have felt the most successful after starting my own firm and getting the opportunity to help Founders in really meaningful ways while also being able to be present for my family and kids while also helping my teams carve out that balance however that looks to them.
The best piece of business advice I ever received was
Obviously didn't receive this directly, but loved the story that Tina Fey tells in her book "Bossypants" about Lorne Michael telling her not to hire anyone that she wouldn't want to have to run into in the halls at 2 am. I have factored this into all hiring (and have encouraged Founders to consider in their own hiring) constantly.
What would I tell my younger self
It is all going to be ok. The stressful times are only a moment and your path will look differently than you have planned, but it will all be better than you can imagine now. Go with the flow and learn as much as you can- especially from the really shitty times.
What 2B Bolder mean to me
As a term it is a great mantra- a reminder that as women we need to take necessary steps to be bold in the workplace (and anywhere, really) to prove our strength and abilities and get to the next level (and hopefully pave a way for others in the process).
As a company I love that you have built a community of women that support women- it is much needed!
